About The Artist : Dan Kozma
Most kids who collect rocks don't become professional jewelers. Maybe
they'll make a necklace for their mom before moving on to another hobby.
Not Dan Kozma. For him, a fascination with rocks led to a lifetime of
creating beautiful jewelry.
Dan, of D.A. Kozma Jewelers, is a jeweler in the true sense of the word
-- creating unique pieces, which he sells in his store in Ocean City.
A tall guy with a friendly smile defies the "jeweler" stereotype. He's about as far
From a little old man with a visor and a jeweler's loupe as you can get.
You might not see Dan when you visit the store. He's much more
likely to be found at his workshop, creating new pieces to be featured at
the stores in the Ocean City Factory Outlets and 45th Street Village
Completely self-taught in the jewelry trade, Dan’s love for the art of
jewelry making began when he collected his first rocks, according to
his wife and business partner, Adrienne.
Dan started working with turquoise and sterling silver in the 1970's,
and when styles changed, he moved into goldsmithing and then
stone cutting and setting setting. Today, his pieces incorporate a
variety of styles -- from traditional to more contemporary. A hallmark
of Dan's designs is his use of several different stones in one piece
to create a stunning effect. Opals from Australia, ranging in color
from soft pastels to vibrant blue-greens -- are often accented by
stones whose colors complement the fiery opals to perfection.
While Dan Kozma is the creative force behind the store, Adrienne manages the shop
with her friendly and helpful staff. It was, in fact, the store that brought the two together
-- a business relationship deepened into friendship and then to something a bit more
serious. The two married in 1989 after working together for eight years.
With residential development booming west of Ocean City, Adrienne
and Dan feel the new location puts them in an ideal spot to serve local
customers as well as visitors. "We're changing with Ocean City, as it
moves toward year-round living, we are moving closer to meet that
need.”
